The 2009 Pittsburgh Steelers have opened training camp and are poised to be back in the Championship game come the fall. The defending Super Bowl Champions are hard at work tweaking their already dominating defense who allowed only 80.3 rushing yards a game. While some in the league are openly questioning why the team did little to bolster that massive but aging front line, DL Coach John Mitchell explained that while age wise they are in fact old, but “football-wise, they are not…I think they can be around for the next three, four, or five years.” On the offensive side of the game, the Steelers are led by Big Ben Roethlisberger at QB, Willie Parker at RB, a host of receivers Santonio Holmes, Shaun McDonald, Limas Sweed, Hines Ward among others. Protecting Big Ben and opening holes for Parker are Capizzi and Colon at tackle, Hartwig at Center and guards Jeremy Parquet, Darnell Stapelton and Kraig Urbik. The 2009 draft yielded some good prospects, especially #1 pic Evander Hood who may see some playing time at the DE/DT position. The Steelers also picked up OG Kraig Urbik from Wisconsin and Mississippi WR Mike Wallace, a pair of cornerbacks, UNLV RB Frank Summers, TE David Johnson out of Arkansas State and A.Q. Shipley a C from Penn State The odds are against the team from repeating into the Super Bowl and unless some changes are made to the O-Line allowing RB Parker to have a better season than last year. The Steelers will need their support so go out and get your Pittsburgh Steelers tickets and cheer them onto the Super Bowl.
